It’s been more than two decades since former Journey frontman Steve Perry released a solo album. His 1994 record For the Love of Strange Medicine was certified gold but hasn’t yielded a followup in almost 22 years.

Today, Perry announced that he’s working on new material. He expects the album to be completed in the early months of 2016 for an undetermined release date.

Fans and media have speculated that his next album has been years in the making, but Perry clarified: He only started working on it in 2015.

“I’m in the studio,” Perry told the Mark in the Morning show in Los Angeles. “You know, actually, I started — there’s been so many rumors going around that I’m in the studio, that I’ve been there for years. The truth is, I finally went into the studio in March, and I’ve been in there ever since, just trying to finish this record.”

After a 20-year hiatus, his fans might not need to wait much longer for new music.
