ABOUT THE INDUCTIONS

The 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Performer Inductees were chosen by more than 900 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first recording. This year’s group of Inductees include five artists (Joan Baez, ELO, Journey, Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur) who were on the ballot for the first time and Yes, who’s been discussed and deliberated for a few years (third nomination – 2014, 2016, 2017). Pearl Jam and Tupac Shakur also became eligible for nomination this year for 2017 ceremony, having released their first album in 1991.

For this year’s Inductions, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame again offered fans the opportunity to officially participate in the selection process. The public was able to cast votes online for who they believe to be most deserving of induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The top five artists, as selected by the public, comprised a “fans’ ballot” that was tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2017 Inductees. More than 1.8 million fans voted and four out of five acts from the Fans’ Ballot are being inducted in 2017 – Journey, ELO, Pearl Jam and Yes.

The people have spoken and so it will be. Journey fans everywhere, young and old finally get to pay tribute to one of the greatest rock bands of all times. Though the faces have changed, their music has remained great and stood the test of time. Now Journey fans wait again, as we’ve waited for decades to see if Perry will join the others. We worked really hard and were very persistent to make sure not only our band, but our guy was given the honor. It is our hope, that he will set aside whatever differences or ill feeling he have. Not only will it be extremely disappointing if he doesn’t show up but it would kind of be a slap in the face to his fans. I love Arnel, he came along and helped save the band. I have the utmost respect for him and he has an incredible voice. Steve Perry will always be the voice of Journey. Ironic that it happened the year that Perry was rumored to release a solo album. Maybe the anticipation helped fuel the fans in the voting, who knows. All we know is we want Steve Perry one last time! Give your fans this one thing, please don’t let them down. I’m not asking you to go on tour are redoing the band. We are asking that you give us the honor of honoring you with the rest of the band!

I LOVE Journey! In my honest opinion, Journey is not Journey without Steve Perry. SP is one of a kind true legendary vocal artist. Nobody can ever duplicate his awesome vocals. Journey so deserves this honor to the highest, it’s been a long time coming. I am so happy and ecstatic over the moon that they made it to the HOF Induction. I could go on and on about how much this band has meant to me since 1980… I was a teenager then “Hopelessly in love”… so many, many memories of my life I shared listening to Journey, good times and bad times… it always got made me feel good and lifted up when I was down. Although I tried my hardest unfortunately, I never got to see SP perform live in concert… one of my biggest regrets! I am still to this day proud and jamming to Journey… now with my kids. It will never get old and their music will forever make me feel young! Thanks Journey! Congratulations! A loyal and biggest fan, Veronica Kady Bauers!

This induction was way overdue. Journey was the flag-bearers for Arena Rock; a genre the RRHOF has egregiously overlooked for years. Steve Perry’s voice is still one of the most identifiable and lauded in rock history. The fans have always loved this band and their music has been the soundtrack to a generation’s high school and college years. Glad the fans finally got a say in who they wanted in the RRHOF…and the electors climbed down from their high horses!

I am over the moon that Journey will be inducted! So well deserved! Now only if Steve Perry will be there, it will be complete! #Don’tStopBelievin’

It’s been along time coming for Journey. They changed Rock & Roll forever they made it ok for rock guys to sing ballads and in doing so they increased their fan base as I see it very smart. I have been a fan since the beginning. Then Steve Perry joined and I was hooked. I have always thought they were special talents and never received the recognition they deserved. They’ve been eligible since 2000. A bunch of us fans voted religiously everyday and we are ecstatic that the Rock & Roll Hall a fame agreed with what we knew all along! We never stopped believing I am so anxious to see Steve Perry perform with the group.

My reaction was pure excitement. A band that crosses all genres of music and is the soundtrack to our lives. Selling over 80 million records and still touring in arenas, they have stood the test of time. Steve Perry is one of the greatest singers of all time, and Neil is one of the greatest guitar players. We are all hoping that Steve attends the ceremony to honor their accomplishments.
